Stories That Grow With Your Child

Lulaby automatically adapts vocabulary, sentence length, and story complexity to match your child's reading level β€” so every book is the perfect fit.

Reading development isn't one-size-fits-all. A story that delights a 3-year-old will bore an 8-year-old β€” and vice versa. That's why Lulaby offers three distinct reading levels, each tuned to how children at that age actually read and learn.

Pre-Readers

Ages 2–4

β€’

Short sentences (5–8 words)

β€’

Repetition and rhythm ("And then… And then…")

β€’

Simple, everyday vocabulary only

β€’

6–8 pages per book

Sample Story Text

β€œLily went to the park. She saw a big dog. The dog was fluffy and brown. Lily patted the dog. The dog wagged its tail.”

πŸ’‘ These books are designed to be read aloud by a parent. The child hears the words and follows the pictures, building early literacy through listening.

Early Readers

Ages 5–7

β€’

Moderate sentence length (8–15 words)

β€’

Simple cause-and-effect plot structure

β€’

Descriptive adjectives and emotion words

β€’

8–10 pages per book

Sample Story Text

β€œLily and her best friend raced to the swings, laughing so hard they nearly tripped over each other's feet. "Higher!" Lily shouted, pumping her legs as fast as she could.”

πŸ’‘ Early reader books support children who are just starting to decode words. Simple plots help them predict what comes next β€” a key skill for reading confidence.

Confident Readers

Ages 8–12

β€’

Longer sentences with subordinate clauses

β€’

Multi-chapter structure with tension and resolution

β€’

Rich vocabulary with contextual clues

β€’

10–14 pages per book

Sample Story Text

β€œDespite her nerves, Lily stepped onto the stage and took a deep breath β€” she had practiced for this moment all year, and nothing was going to stop her now. The audience fell silent as she began to speak.”

πŸ’‘ Confident reader stories challenge older children with more complex narratives, richer language, and longer books that reward sustained attention.

How to Pick the Right Level

Start with your child's age. The age ranges are a reliable starting point for most children.

Go one level down for confidence. If your child is learning to read independently, a slightly easier level helps them succeed and builds love of reading.

Go one level up for a challenge. If your child is advanced, a higher level keeps them engaged and stretches their vocabulary.

You can always change it. Every book lets you choose the level β€” try different ones to see what your child enjoys most.
